Road Hazards

Oversized Loads on Motorcycles: A Two-Decade Road Hazard in Tamale Metropolis

One of the major road hazards in Tamale Metropolitan area is the dangerous practice of carrying oversized loads, such as large bundles of firewood and other goods, on motorcycles. These loads extend far beyond the width of the motorcycle, creating significant safety risks for riders, passengers, and other road users. This behavioral practice has been prevalent on major roads in Tamale Metropolis for over two decades, becoming a normalized but highly dangerous activity.

Incidents of such practices have caused numerous cases of road traffic crashes in the Metropolis, leading to deaths and physical incapacitation. The oversized loads affect the motorcycle's balance, stability, and maneuverability, making accidents more likely, especially when riders need to swerve or brake suddenly. PALLI-ZUGU Foundation is raising awareness about these hazards and working with local authorities to address this critical road safety issue.
